I quite like The Acedemy quest and the the idea of some big finale in the endgame, unforutantely The Acedemy quest still fires to late in the game for it to matter most of the time. I have two Ideas on how to improve it. addressing both of the major problems with it.
1. The Acedemy quest starts too late.
Starting at turn 130 on normal speed means that for most games you will already be 10-20 turns from victory and diverting resources from your victory to do The Acedemy quest is never worth it. An easy way to fix this is simply making it fire sooner and there are two ways to go about this.
A. Just make it start 20-30 turns sooner.
Not really much to say about this, it just starts sooner. Not my perfered option.
B. Make it start dynamically based on how all players are doing.
My favourite route. Make the acedemy quest start based off of how all of the players are doing, so that it will always start before people really get going on their victories. You could do this in a variety of ways. Galactic dust production (the lore friendly option), Galactic tech, Number of colonized systems, Number of system developments, even score might work. Anything that measures the general progess of the galaxy would do. So for example if it dust production when galactic dust production hits say 50,000 then The Acedemy quest starts.
2. The The Acedemy quest doesn't give enough of a reward to be worth it.
Personally I feel if the timing is fixed then this isn't really an issue. 20% FIDSI and four hero levels is a pretty good reward in my opinion. However for people who disagree I can think of a reward that would always be useful...
A. The Acedemy quest should grant victory to the winning team.
Similar to the quest victory in Endless Legend The Acedemy quest should be a way of attaining victory. Lore wise this would make sense (at least for the rejuvenators) and it would definately make people care about it. if this is the option taken then I do not think that it should fire ealier. Also the quest would probably have to be made harder as well. Rejuventators maybe have to control the acdemey and search respawning curiosities to donate dust for the ritual. Defenders Also need to control acdemey and donate dust for destroying it.
If any of these ideas are implemented I think it would greatly improve both the quest and the endgame as a whole.
I was actually surprised on first playing ES2 that a quest victory was NOT an option and that completing your faction quest or the Academy quest did NOT provide some sort of closure or ending to the game.
i think that tostart the queast, base of the total players scoure is easy enough to impelament. and will trigerd at a good time for the game but to say the true. i would like if it will trigert to soon, and creat same chaose in same game.
but i would also like if the acedemy quest will fired base of how far the empires in the galaxy are in they facthion quest. and allso give the quest victory to the game. this can be trigerd to soon, and creat same chaose. but i think a little chaose could be a good thing. it will be hard to impelament BC all the facthion quest are realy easy to do if you focase on them. so it will be needed to redone.
why i think it's good, BC i dont think balence it realy that good in a 4x game. i think if there is an empire thet stronger then any other empire. it just make the game more dinamic with the players. (this gay is so strong, we need to take him out togever). (the academy quest triger b4 turn 80!, dam we need to forge an alince and win this and fast) it's just more fun when the game is abit broken xD
