I have been playing the game since the beta and I really want to express how wonderful the game is overall. The amount of work that has gone into this game is just phenominal and I really do think it is just about one of the best space 4x games made. Well I want to see it rise higher and become the best 4x space game ever. In order to do that, I feel that the ship construction needs an overhaul, especially for the AI.
To be completely upfront I primarily play Sophons, as I am a tech junky just like them. Not to mention now that we have the Mavros skin the Red and Black is just Amazing for them. However the AI really cannot cope with me as a player when building fleets and down to the individual ships. In all fairness, it has improved a lo since the beta but is is still inadequate. Of course there are 3 parts to this formula; Researching appropriate technologies, what modules to install on ships and fleet composition, and it is not an easy fix. Now in all fairness to E.N.F.E.R. (AI), I do primarily play a custom Sophon race so I am usually able to surpass the AI quite often in tech. However, the main problem remains that the AI is not even getting close to be able couinter my tactics. I know what I am asking is a HUGE undertaking from the DEV team, because they have worked on it a lot already. But seeing their progress with diplomacy gives me great faith in them and I think they can pull it off.
1) The AI factions not researching appropriate technologies to counter my existing tech.
2) The AI does not adequately build ships to counter mine, even after being at war and being their only opponent.
3) The AI needs higher priority assigned to researching command points for fleets. I consistantly, have bigger fleets. (personally, command points should not be attached to a tech, but the level of tech opened up, then the AI does not have to actually research a specific tech to get the improvements (yes, that is the easy way to fix that)
4) AI Ships are mostly extremes, and cannot counter my balanced ships at all!
5) Fleet compositions have improved a lot, but I still regularly see Heros in the same systems with a fleet, but not in an actual fleet.
6) In refernce to #4 this greatly affects a fleets effectivness.
I have noticed a significant improvement in mixed ship compositions in the fleets, so that has helped the AI.
It maybe possible that I confuse the AI because I usually build balanced ships, I am unsure. It is also possible that my custom race is too powerful and exceeds what the AI can counter. I am very interested in what you guys think about how we can get much better and epic space battles. As it stands by turn 100 I have complete space superiority and wipe out everything on the hardest difficulty.
My other complaint, is that we can't actually see what the AI is putting on their ships, so it is impossible to help isolate the problems with the AI ship construction.
I don't play MP so those of you that do, please put in you comments in an organized way so that I can fully understand them. I have now put the Idea to a Vote! so please keep this thread going with your ideas and use the voting system at the bottom and maybe we can get ship construction overhauled.
So this thread is for a constructive talk about what areas are in need of improvement and what your experience with other races has been overall. I want this to goto the DEVS and hopefully we can get this fixed by next year. So make sure you upvote the thread and the Idea.
Part of it is that the AI builds ships assuming modules are roughly balanced with each other. This isn't close to being true. I'm not even sure some of them (like Flotilla Shield modules) even work.
