I'm sure it has been suggested/discussed before. It is way too easy to siege a system for a 2-3 turns and then easily capture it, even easier if you find the orichalix slugs... damn that stuff is OP!

I can't believe the world would have not come up with some sort of orbital cannon to defend agains't sieges.

Orbital cannonz pls!

Citadels have been in the game since August, and outside of that offense should always trump defense to keep games from grinding to a standstill. You should always have a few defensive fleets in reserve to chase away ambitious rivals, anyways. Why put guns on space stations when you can just bring space ships to the party?

Some people like turtling game-play. I like it too, sometimes.

It's one part that I think 4x games are not taking into account enough: Players that like empire vs empire feeling, diplomacy, trade, politics, but without the fleet hopping. Or civ5/6 unit masses to manage all over the map.

For the same reason I often thought about ideas that involve 4x without fleet movement. Just a frontline and maybe hyperjump anywhere on the map. Such a game would not be about punctual located defenses, but more about political pressure and generalized macro defense mechanics. Or it could be about any fleet being able to jump to the defense anywhere, so using "the fleet" (instead of many fleets) would be a special military option to deploy.

However in ES2, for fluff and fun, I would also really like orbital cannons. Or something like PDS from twilight imperium.

This idea reminded me heavily of the Vaulters faction gameplay.  With enough portals, you have only the frontline, and punctuality becomes moot.  :P
