As above. " " are my draft names for these traits or functions.

One would like to roleplay as e.g.:

  • Sowers/Epistis/Terraformer Drones - that are built, but therraform planets conventionally
  • Biophobic Purifiers/Cultists of Death - that are grown, biologic fanatics, but reverse-terraform (hostile terraformation) planets and cleanse them of all life

Right now it's impossible to use Riftborn Visual Affinity(their models, questline, and above hidden de-facto traits - "Reverse Terraformers" and "Factory-built Population") for anything  other than playing "Riftborn with a twist" in some minor regard.

Other factions have it clean: Metafolding isn't connected exlusively with Argosy colonizer, Custom Vodyani can breed normally outside of their Arks, Custom Unfallen can hop onto UC Crescents and so on and so forth.

Riftborn aren't so lucky. Fix here would be an easy and elegant one:

1. As Biophobic trait in made to work in tandem with another default modifier of Riftborn - Reverse Terraform - I propose it should also grant ability to Reverse Terraform - with Reverse Terraform FREED from Riftborn Visual Affinity bonds.

2. Factory-built Population should be made a separate trait in Start Modifiers trait group with a cost of 10 - akin to Involuntary Nomads - as it might be an advantage, and FREED from Riftborn Visual Affinity bonds.

Also - while choosing a homeworld one should be able to choose as a Sterile planet(i.e Desert, Barren, Ice, Lava, Gas Giant...) or None at all, both costing 0 points - this alone would freed an user of In the Shadows affinity/Involuntary Nomads trait cost - that those users wouldn't be using anyway, but would be helpful for someone with Biophobic trait or add odd roleplay venues e.g. Deyuvians, Spacers, Jovians, Kalmat, Rebuilding Kal'Tik'Ma...

Great ideas. Riftborn really still needs to be improved. Particularly lacking is the ability to choose a sterile initial planet when creating an entire race.

The problem is not that the Riftborn need improvements; it's that the faction editor needs to be freed from a few arbitrary roadblocks.  Many affinities or features are improperly valued in terms of build points and some features are almost inseparable.  The Riftborn are a unique case in that their two primary affinities house abilities which are far too tightly married to each other to separate without creating a dead-end faction.  I've said before that their affinities need to be moved around so they can actually be used more reasonably in custom factions.  Some factions have stuff you don't care much about but the Riftborn have cool stuff you can't have without all but breaking your custom faction.

I still hold my stance that reworking the editor and the values of things therein would be the final step in ensuring ES2's replayability for years after development is considered done.  I feel the faction editor is a woefully underdeveloped and underutilized part of the game.
