Maintaining pirate friendship seems impossible with AI in the game

You bribe them till they love you, next turn they are attacking you again.

This is particularily harmful with unfallen entwining and things similar to it.

I have noticed this somehow scales with number of players or AI. In 1 v 1 pvp, pirates remember they liked me last turn and do not instantly decide to kill me instead.

I suspect AI is constantly overbribing the pirates to hate me more.

Can pirates have non-aggresive pact with only one faction at a time? In last games I thought that's not the case, so AI overbribing might not be the cause. Just that some pirate AI trigger is bugged and you lose non-aggressive pact moments after you bought it.

I'm also not sure but I suppose that pirate federation can't enact NAP with every empire existing. Because the standing with pirates do decrease without pressing next turn button.

From what I experienced, AI improves its relations with pirates immediately (if AI can afford the dust) each time player gives dust. So you win that race, if you have more dust.

Unless you force it for 10 turns, like Vaulters do. Still, some clarifying that someone else have NAP with pirates is welcome.

Why someone want to befriend pirates when you can just farm them? Put dust gain from destroyed CP and destroy them, hack them, assault them. =)

Well, the Vaulters have a vested interest in playing nice with the pirates because they provide free portal locations. The Lumeris generally play nice with pirates too. Umbral Choir can play nice with them to avoid dealing with the early detection that pirates get.

Also, I believe the pirates have a natural decay on relationships. I always over buy their loyalty so it lasts for a few turns.

What i understood from cat is that more than one faction can have a good (wary) relationship with the pirates, and yes it decays over time.

Wary means that some other faction gave more dust than you. But they are still friendly towards you. But the relation decays faster (this is what i found).

Cordial means they have the 'best' relationship with you.

HERE  for a full proposal:

Part that is of import in that matter:

Pirates:

8. Reworked Pirate Diplomacy and pirate pillaging.

8a) A Pirate Sovereign (money-based) should not have deteriorating relations and should press Pirates to violate NAP with others(for a cost).

8b)Pillaging should be buffed at least 100 times - so they plunder at least 2500 in gold/resources(from enemy system) In extreme cases they would kill a colony by plundering 100% value(esentially removing a colony)

(...)

Effects? (...) Pirates suddenly relevant and reliable.

I don't think granting more reward than the price of pirate mark is good idea. Its role is closer to harassing rather than nice investment spot. It might be good to give decent reward if defender was horrible at its job but pirate mark should generally consume your dust.
