New Major Faction: Ivory Academy


Not sure about the lore, here. Maybe this faction is Isyander, or maybe something else, like some kind of splinter group that broke away. 


Based around hero play. It might be overpowered to some extent; I'm more concerned with the fun ideas here, and didn't think too much about balance. 


All for One, One for All

Heroes join the Academy first

- Begin the game with 2 heroes

- The Academy has double the rate of free hero adoption

- Dust cost on heroes is half


Alumni

The Academy has the power to redistribute heroes at Influence cost. 

- Know which heroes are in the game, which faction they work for, what their skills are, and what role they are currently in (Governor vs Admiral)

- Swap any 2 heroes between any factions for an Influence cost.


Elite Rule

Does not have a colonizer ship, but settles planets using heroes, which become the governor

- The pop that starts on that planet matches the race of the governor

- A planet must always have a governor, but they can be swapped


School of Admiralty

- Ships cannot move or participate in battle unless assigned to a fleet with an admiral

- Flexible hull research -- begin the game with no hulls. For each hull type, pick one hero that is not already a "schematics overseer" to permanently assign them to that hull. They become the schematics overseer for that hull type; which sets that type to use their race.


Protocol Mastery

Heroes can be assigned to other special major functions as Field Experts:

- Head Researcher

- Grand Admiral

- Intelligence Mastermind

- Not sure yet what these would do...


Board of the Academy

Special Government Type called Board of the Academy: has best benefits of both Democracy and Dictatorship (or maybe any 2 government types?)

- Senators are directly assigned (and reassigned) instead of the usual way (cannot also be Admirals, Governors, or Field Experts, however)

Hmm interesting. Kind of screws with the whole idea of a Visual Affinity when you're able to cherry pick Hull types of other factions, but I do like the uniqueness behind it seeing as it has Horatio Gene Hunter flavor but on an Empire scale using Heroes as the mechanism to do so. You start the game with 2 Heroes, one of which must be a Governor on your Home planet via Elite rule. Do you get to pick which Heroes you start with or is that pre-determined like it is with other Vanila Factions? Furthermore, do you start with a planet colonized or in orbit like Vaulters do on a Rejuvenation Field? Colonization appears to be like that of Vaulters/Unfallen where you can't just snatch a system away if an opposing faction has an Outpost(or can you?). Will you start with Exploration Hulls or are those locked until you assign a Hero for their respective Exploration class?


No idea what Protocol Mastery would do and Board of Academy kind of throws a wrench into the Government system that frankly doesn't need to be broken :P Pick a Government from those listed ;). I'd recommend Dictatorship or Autocracy honestly.


As for School of Admiralty, I'd remove the requirement of having a Fleet Admiral to participate in combat. That's an exploit if there ever was one.
