ES2 Squadron Combat Suggestion

Yes this is going to get ignored, they always do.


Currently, Fighters are almost useless at their intended task. Their entire purpose is to take down bombers, but since each fighter will target the same bomber, it results to one bomber getting killed at most due to all the fighters targeting the same bomber, and the bomber squadron usually always taking its target out. This repeats each phase. My suggestion for fighters specifically is to allow each fighter or fighter squadron target a different bomber.


Some other content-adding suggestions I had for Squadrons will be listed below:

Suicide Squadrons

  • The entire purpose of this squadron is to ram into its target and deal insane amounts of damage. The only problem is that they're very slow and don't have weapons. 

Repair Squadrons

  • Got this idea from the repair each phase modules. This squadron type will entirely focus on repairing damaged ships mid combat. There should be maybe 5-8 of these per module, and they move to the ship in the flotilla that is being actively targeted. This squadron moves very very fast to ensure that it can likely reach its target before it dies.

Scrapper Squadrons

  • This squadron would go to ship wreckages mid battle and pick out loot and information. They are very weak, and there are only 1 or 2 of them per module, but they could give you information as to what modules your enemy is using, strategic resources, fleet experience, etc.

Stealth Squadrons

  • The stealth squadrons would, as their name implies, be invisible. They would circle behind an enemy flotilla, find the most powerful ship, then decloak and stun it.

Those are actually pretty decent suggestions...but sadly the chance of them being implemented is probably less than 0.005%

You know - we could replace the word "bomber" with the word "ship" and this statement still would be true. 

I grinned so much times watching how 100500 shots from the whole fleet were given at one target, round after round, killing only one ship instead of killing all of them in one round and not having any friendly casualties, when you have firepower 100 times bigger than the enemy. 


well, thats kind of stuff always happens, when people tend to put all their efforts into appearence saving nothing for the inside stuff.


Ow, I like your suggestions, but this game has incomparable design and breathtaking imagery, so much effort has been put into it, so why not just enjoy it? :)

This is sort of related to the general point about fighter craft targeting being weird
