Lets say i got a little trigger happy with the gene splicing and now my people is starving there is something i can do to stop it ? 

Produce more food maybe?

Is there any way to tell what the food cost will be in advance? I have done the exact same thing.

How many factions have you spliced? because if you've spliced more than 4 you're probably going to have a hard time.

That's weird. If you splice faction that give you food bonus, you would expect to be able to splice even more factions.
