Allies letting others into my alliance

Hi,

So, here I am - trolling along happily in my unfallen/riftborn alliance (I'm the unfallen, not that it matters) and all of a sudden - bang! The Horatio are in my alliance and I'm at war with a bunch of people I was at peace with.

I reloaded from a couple of turns previously and went through the same procedure, to make sure I hadn't accidentally accepted an alliance request without realising it. No, that hadn't happened. My only explanation is that my Riftborn friends let them in without asking me first

Is this normal, and can I prevent it in future?

It was OK in the end. I made peace with everyone and the galaxy is a harmonious place once more. But it was surprising to say the least.

Thanks,

Hi,

This is normal ; the AI continues to negotiate diplomatically even after having entered an alliance. In this case you should several options :

- A pop-up should offer you to leave the alliance (as you didn't agree to go to war) with no penalties

- You can (like you did) renegotiate diplomatic status with other players

- You can leave the alliance at any time

Sadly with the way alliances are done it would be very costly for us to implement a voting system, even though it would probably be the best solution.

Best,

Best,

That was also one of my biggest gripes.  Being in an alliance strips you of choice quite a bit.  You can be forced into truces by one of your allies irrespective of how weak they are (which you don't get an option to refuse), wars can be started without you having any say, etc.

Sad to hear that a voting mechanic would not be possible.  It would have been the ideal solution.

If that is not possible, how about an influence bidding thing?  When a new member wants to join, a war declared, or a truce accepted, we can have each member pay a certain amount of influence and whoever is willing to pay more gets his way (the losers get reimbursed).

Would that work or is it as difficult to implement as a voting system?

Best,

If voting is not possible, how about having control of the alliance go to the member with the highest score? That way, if the player is not the strongest member, nothing changes for them, but if their faction is the one with the highest score, they decide when to go to war, and when to end them?
