Negative diplomatic cost of pacific conversion

I'm playing as the unfallen, and it seems like the best way to go is to colonise a lot of the galaxy. It's a slow start due to the 30-turns-to-entwine business, so I've found myself wanting to culture-flip a bunch of systems.

Obviously the AI doesn't like it when you do that. I managed to annoy the Lumeris much more than the United Empire by doing this, and I'm wondering if it's because I left the UE systems a lot longer before flipping them, or whether it's just that the UE is weaker in my game and doesn't want to stand up for itself?

Basically, my question is: Apart from the influence cost, is there a diplomatic benefit in leaving systems to 100% completion when peacefully converting a system, or am I going to annoy the other faction by the same amount irrespective of when I do it?

Thanks,
