So i was thinking it would be giggles to give the Vodyani sup corvette a heavy turret, replacing its normal turret. Attempts were partly sucessful. I could get the code to work, but the turret model would not spawn. I was wondering what i would theoretically need to do in order to place a working heavy turret model on this ship. 

And advice?

Let me play with it when I get home and I'll see if I can't provide you an answer. I know with the old Endless Space, designing the weapon was one thing, and setting up the ship "classes" was another, wherein you picked which items would spawn for the default ship layouts.
