Adding New Factions

Hello!


First time poster, long time modder - started fiddling with Endless Space 2 tonight and have started working on getting a basic new faction in. I've spotted where more or less everything is with regards to gameplay already (the XML setup is relatively straightforward, if not rather limited), but I'm a bit miffed as to how one registers their new faction with the factions menu? I've spotted a list in 'Registry.xml', but I'm not sure how to go about incorporating changes to that file into my own mod - or if there is a better way around it. I'm hoping that there is a better way, since the registry seems to have a compulsory ordering and I wouldn't want my own custom factions conflicting with someone else's because they occupy the same registry slot.

Any assistance would be appreciated, and I'm hoping someone knows despite it being relatively early days thus far.

Likewise, I built out what I think should be the new faction but I don't see how to get it picked up as part of the main listing.  I just stopped fiddling with it for the time being until we get a few more details from the devs on loading structure or someone with more time / interest than me brute forces their way through it.

I'll be highly interested by your breakthroughs too.

I'd like to make a new faction affinity then a new faction pop. If you find how to do it, please make an example mod.

New affinities and new populations look quite easy, there are schemas and examples already there in the simulation files (though I haven't yet tried it). The problem is getting the faction listed in the first place so that you can start properly editing it!

I've been working on this but have not been able to add neither Gameplay Affinities nor Visual Affinities to the custom race menu, so without even getting those to work I haven't made the push for an actual new Faction.  If someone has an example or knows how to get new Gameplay Affinities/Visual Affinities to show up please share.  I have just been trying to make simple ones like just copying the Sophon's one and renaming it to see if I could get it up but nope.


Edit: Nevermind I have finally successfully added Gameplay Affinity and Visual Affinity successfully.  Combined the affinities into FactionTraits and then in xml for loading your mod add 'extratypes' for both of those.  When I had the affinities in separate files, it wouldn't load them properly I guess?

Sigh, was testing the Visual Affinity added and I get an error when trying to use it when customizing an existing faction.  There's an error in PopulationModifiersTrait, which I think is that I'm missing corresponding GUI and Localization for it.  I have added the GUI for PopulationModifiersTrait but have not found how the entry for PopulationModifersTrait*Count is in GUI and this could be potentially one of the things that doesn't allow me to create the new custom faction ingame.  If anybody knows where that entry is located please share.

Cheers for sharing drekx. I've not really had time to look into it since I originally posted since I've moved house for a new job. Hopefully I'll have time to dig into it again soon.
