Want to make a Battlecards mod...

I have been playing this game intensively for the last 2 weeks (been around since ES1 but was on other games for a while) and I feel like modding a bit. The first thing I wish to try my hand on is to fix/improve the battlecards as I find most of them not that helpful. The second reason would be to give the AI something it can effectively use as unlike human players it won't pick *wrong*cards to suit it's formation needs. Now, I did a similar mod back in ES1 but the code changed a lot since then and don't make much sense to me right now. So anyone who can help me figure out out to get started...

Hey Foraven!


I believe creating new cards or modifying the existing ones means you'll probably have to create or modify battle ship trajectories.

I heard it's a tedious process, I have no idea how to do it, and I'm afraid nobody dared do it in a mod so far.

Yeah, I have been looking at the xml files this week-end and Es2 don't seem as mod friendly as it was back in Es1. There seem to be a lot more that can be done with it, but the code is not as easy to figure out. I've taken a look at the ship trajectories and I do see why they may be tedious to mod as there is little explanations about how it works and testing it in game might be quite an hassle. But that's the kind of challenge I like, especially since few people have made mod for this game and I would be the first to tackle battlecards...

Will take a quick look at this today and will report back here for you. You may be able to create new cards but have to use trajectories from existing ones, so it'd mostly be the effect and combination of flotilla trajectories you'd decide. I've been considering adding new cards to my Combat Balance Mod, but my focus with the project so far has been balancing existing features rather than adding ones, so my pass on the cards there was based entirely on the effects.


The Cat-o-Nine-Tales has been working with trajectories though, so you may want to contact him for more on the limits there.
