Does anyone have code to read the binary save game files? Or can we force XML output?

I'm working on creating a sort of "scenario/campaign generator" using save game files.  The save files are just zip files that contain either binary or XML data files (which is nice, thanks devs!).  I can create game saves using XML, which is great and that works fine.

However what I'd really like to do is to be able to read a game save to get the results of the game (system/faction status, alliances, winner and type of win if there was one, etc.) so that I can then feed that back into my system to use to produce more games to play.  The binary format actually looks fairly straight-forwards (it could have been far, far worse!) but before I embark on creating a solution I thought it best to ask if there's an existing one.

My overall goal is to create what I'm calling a "Supercluster layer", in which you have a campaign that takes place over multiple galaxies/games.

Any information / pointers would be greatly appreciated!  Code in any language is fine.

EDIT: Writing this made me think of the end-game summaries!  They're also in the binary format.
