Does sending out probe count as if hero itself opened new system? Does he get the xp?
Probe and XP gain.

I just checked the various exp values for having your hero on a expedition fleet:
Discovering a system, either directly by sight or a probe from the fleet: 4 Experience
Entering a newly discovered system for the first time: 4 Experience
Sending a probe to a Curiosity (all types): 6 Experience

AFAIK your hero will get xp from using probes to explore curisities. Not sure of value.

I just checked again and probes do not give xp.
