Experienced player lost in the penumbra.

I have been playing Endless Space 2 since early access, I love the game as well as the universe in fact it was the original that introduced me to 4x  and turn based strategy. Steam states that I have played 380 hours of gameplay and I suspect that it may even be more, remembering the dark days of not having a good Internet connection at my old house. Anyway for the life of me I can't fathom the hacking mechanics it seems complicated like I would imagine real hacking is. As has been previously stated the tutorial is pretty woeful, would anyone be kind enough to share a link where there is an decent explanation of the new hacking mechanics? Thank you
