A Dyson Sphere is a megastructure that harvests energy from a star. So far in the game I have only seen a Dyson Sphere have an affect on whether a system is hot, cold, etc. If the Dyson Sphere harvests energy, where is it going? Is it creating dust? Spewing propaganda messages? Decreasing system-wide energy costs? Powering a space-farm? Synthesizing materials? Analyzing the cosmos? My point is that having a structure around an entire star that harvests energy should have either a story or a purpose.

The purpose could be increasing any of the (randomized in galaxy generation) increase in Food, Industry, Influence, Dust, or Science. Although it would give them a purpose, it would have to be balanced by reducing the amount of Dyson Spheres, even as is.

The story could include a reason as to why they are not yielding any of the prementioned bonuses, like they are powering the artificial stars that you find through some portal sciences of the sort.

I propose to go even beyond. To implement dyson spheres as semi-faction-wonders you can built one starting with one technology and more with more technologies/heroes/total number of systems at development stage 4. To add to that, one could implement the ability to upgrade dyson spheres for climate control, dust production or even star transformation eventually. Astroforming so to say.

Although Dyson Spheres are rare (had to look through 7-8 well-played games to find an uninhabited one), I feel that implementation of ideas like mine and these shouldn't go to far. Yes, harnessing the power of a star is alot of energy, but it would disrupt the balance of the game too much if too many bonuses were added (e.g. an upgraded dyson sphere that provided +10 industry per population), it would upset the balance of the game significantly. Otherwise I would agree fully with ideas like this one.

I give you that!

Yet, we could look at dyson spheres as something to construct, not just find - starting with the (now) later technologies. If that could occur dysonspheres would be another thing for factions to built (maybe with a limitation like only at system level 4 or 5[if 5 comes up]). Thus It would add to the complexity of the game, the specialisation of factions, maybe new graphics and more adjustment to needs. Imagine for example a dyson sphere being used to collect matter and creating a new planet (factually speaking: our earth is still growing due to [simply said] thermodynamics), which is quite slow in reality, but factions that are advanced enough to create a DS, could maybe accelerate that to something that, which as a task takes about as many turns like building a faction-wonder (not a global galaxy wonder like the endless park). But I only want this (if it happens) to come up in the later game periods, not with stage 1-3 techs.

If they ever do impliment Automatons as a major faction again, I better be able to make a Friggen Dyson Sphere as an improvement.

Actually, I like it this way.

It seems like Dyson spheres ended up being a vanity project for Endless, so younger races don't even attempt to fix them.
