Just throwing this out there. Sowers as a minor faction. I'd love it if they came back as a major faction because I didn't play a lot of Endless Space 1 but I loved the premise of the Sowers as an alternative to the Automatons being intelligent machine socities. Seeing as so many of the other major races are still in the universe I think you could include them in ES2. I had two thoughts about how you'd do them, and obviously, I'm leaning on the side of over powered late game bonuses. But one of the things I think this minor faction does is make terraforming have additional appeal for players.

Sower bonuses as a normal minor population.

1   - +2 Industry +2 Happiness if the planet is Unique or has been Terraformed any number of times

10 - Industrialist

20 - Sower population on a planet that has been terraformed any number of times have +1 FIDSI.

50 - Terraforming projects cost 10-20% less dust in systems (Total # of Sowers in your faction/5) with a Sower on the planet being terraformed.

Sower bonuses as a "fixed" minor population ala Gaurdians, these can not be moved. The Gaurdians are unique to the Unfallen, but these would be a variant unspecific to any faction at present. However, because the Vodyani are virtuals, perhaps their starting system should start with a Sower.

1    - (-1)Food (+2)Industry ... (+4)Industry if the system has no Food improvements built.

5    - Ecologist

10  - An extra population slot is unlocked on a planet with a Sower.

20  - Terraforming a planet in a system with a Sower costs 20% less dust.

Uhm. ALSO. I've been reading some more of the forums and there is definitely a concern about Cravers making the game a lot less fun / interesting if they deplete too many planets. So. You could have the Sowers have an option to counter this effect. I'd imagine it'd be a more fitting bonus if they were a fixed minor population ala Gaurdians, and you could sacrifce the Sower to partially restore (replete ~10%) a depleted planet - not fully, just enough for a short bonus for the Cravers or to counter the effect of a fully depleted planet on occasion.

Well I wouldn't object to them as a major faction but from reading about their endless space 1 quest it seems like they've pretty much run their course.

FYI, Guardians are not unique to the Unfallen. They apply to any Faction that has the "Guardians" Faction trait.
It is a rather expensive one (40 points), but one that can be applied to any Custom Faction.

I was aware of that, but it's, in the Unfallen's starting trait pool. So the suggestion I was making was that Sowers as a trait could be added to the Vodyani. But I didn't realize it was that high a point cost. That probably prohibits it from being added to the Vodyani, too unbalanced.

In the meantime, for those of you who are interested. I made a custom race, it's using the Vodyani ship bound trait. It's a take on the Sowers.

I called it The Culture as a bit of a joke.
