I recently decided to explore the Custom Faction creator in Endless Space 2 and found it to be great and so much better than Endless Space 1. The ability to create a custom faction with it's own story and background is great, but there's one thing that I find a bit annoying. Not a gamebreaker, but something I think would make it better. The ability to customize the Homeworld of our Custom Faction beyond what is present.

What I mean is starting the game with a Custom Faction and seeing their homeworld is just [PLANET TYPE], along with the name just being [STAR SYSTEM #], is a bit disheartening. I personally would like to see a small increase in the ability to customize the Homeworld.

What kind of changes would be nice? Here's a short list for ease of access reading.

  • Pre-Named Homeworld- This is pretty simple, but having the Homeworld already named is a minor but nice change, instead of having to change it in game.

  • Description- Along with the name, being able to write a description for the Homeworld will also be nice, and help build some history for our faction. Right now it's just the description for the planet type. I'd like to give my Homeworld a bit of history.

  • Custom Planet Picture- What I'm referring to is the portrait of the planet for unique worlds. On all the Major Faction's, Minor Faction's and other Unique planets they have a picture of the planets hemisphere in some scenic lighting. For custom factions, the planet just uses the planet type we have. What would be a nice addition is a drop down menu or some other list of the already existing Unique planet portraits for us to choose from. This makes it look nicer and stand out in the vast galaxies they start in.

These are the ideas for custom faction Homeworlds that I think would be nice, welcome editions. I play Endless Space 2 and other Endless games for the stories they make, and these additions would be very good for immersion in my opinion. Thank you for reading, and please make any comments and critiques if you have them.
