How this might work? 


- The Galaxy setup could have an option to be populated by primitive races as well as their frequency. (These races should not necessarily have their own artwork, but maybe a generic one.)

The player would have the option to either leave them alone making their planet a preserve of sorts that would provide an Empire wide happiness bonus, or intervene in their evolution.


- Should the player choose to interact with them, that could be done in a similar manner as with minor factions, but the options could be, abduct, experiment, enlighten, infiltrate etc.


- After a certain number of turns, the uplifting of the primitives will reach certain milestones in their physiology, psychology etc, where certain attributes are achieved (based on player intervention). 

For example you can enhance with cybernetics or genetic manipulation, to increase their production output, but the method you choose could turn them into Industrialists or Ecologists. Which one will it be?

Or maybe you can infiltrate their society helping them with technology (Scientist), or appear in front of them in all your Glory and turn them into a Religious faction.


- Once "enlightenment" is reached, the primitives are uplifted as a minor faction within the Empire with ethics and traits that were chosen by the player during this process.

The faction's appearance could very well be one of the remaining minor factions that are left out of the current galaxy setup.


BTW, I could easily see this whole process also work within the quest system as well.


Give me your thoughts and/or ways to expand upon this.

While this is an interesting idea, it's unfortunately out of vision for Endless Space 2.

I like the idea, an evolution of primitives to minor races sounds pretty nice. If it's not too much work, this would give the player in addition to the random minor races neighbors, who can be modeled to ones desires.

It may be intended, yet not listed, so I would add the ability to observe and study only.


Also that way the player could imagine the backstory of the random minor races, knowing how the primitives were modeled.

The ability to observe and study only could either be the non interference option that yields happiness, or maybe something else entirely that could yield Research.

I guess one way to implement it without expending too much development time /resources is to write it into the random exploration quests system. You are presented with a choice that will have consequences later on (like getting a unique ship modules if choosing to uplift).

A great idea and one being used in a game I'm playing right now. 

There are several options available like observe for science gain per month or (turn)

You can infiltrate them and undermine their government so you can slowly take over the planet as your own

You can "uplift" them try and either protect them (like city states in CIV)

They can even evolve into an early space faring civilization that then becomes another empire in the game if you leave them to be like Star Trek first contact. (we've been watching you all along, welcome to the club)

No doubt this opens up many options and one I would like to see.

And hopefully make it interactive and not just a menu system.

I love this idea! 


Seems like a fantasic way to add flavour and depth; not to mention tailor the game to your prefered play style. 


Maybe it could become a symbiotic relationship providing a permanent buff (science increase/specific technology) or advantage (unit type etc) in much the same way as Endless Legend allowed for the incorporation of three "minor" races.


Not a Strong Military faction; no problem.... say hello to my "newly uplifted" Fiesty Little Friends XD !!
