My understanding is that all "flat" FIDSI from a system is added up, and then all "percentage" modifiers are added up, and the "flat" total is multiplied by the "percentage" total in order to produce the total gross (and then upkeep/consumption is subtracted to produce the net total).


Assuming this understanding is correct, there are several circumstances where it would be convenient to see the "flat total" and "percentage total" intermediate values.  For instance, this could be used to pick the best location for a hero or a unique improvement (one that gives a percentage boost should be placed in the system with the highest raw output and vice versa), or to help determine how big of an impact each regular improvement is likely to have.
