Could have a tech for assissanating Govonors who are on a planet. There could be tech's for different levels of assissantions, and on the other hand there could be techs that give govonors a protection squad, say like 3 levels. 3 levels of assissanation, and 3 levels of protection. Should be hard to kill a govonor, injured would be more likely. If assassination attemp fails, should have a negative event or effect on the faction trying to kill the govonor, also, should be a limit on how many attemps a faction can make per game.

I dont understand why you want to assasinate governors. what positive side effect it could have in game?

Well hero elimination even temporary, can play a strong role in the game. It also fits within the upcoming theme and is technically already partially implemented as it copies the pressure action of hero hostage.

I would probably have it to be purchased from pirates just as pirate marks are.

Unlike the diplomatic hostage opponent would be simply able to heal hero and lead an alternate dust expense warfare. Or simply use it at an opportune moments.

Yup, I think it's a great idea basis.

Lots of complexity can arise from this. Buildings may be built (once per empire) to increase the number of actions available and such.

Perhaps even during space battles certain heroes might use Boarding Pod modules to capture ennemy heroes opposing them in space battles, even if only on a temporary basis also. Instead of a healing cost, perhaps a higher ransom would need be paid in dust or influence points to see the hero released. Possibilities are... Well, endless. :D

While captured the hero would give out information about the faction he represents, perhaps every turn going by that he is not repatriated by his "leader" the information would get more "concrete" or important in nature. Also the captured hero would give benefits to the faction who is holding him perhaps.

Just adding ideas in there.

Taking out a Governor or Fleet Admiral just at the right time could give a huge edge to the 'assassinating' party. Perhaps as i mentioned you could actually also kidnap them for ransom and such.

Counter mechanics would come in, certain buidlings or hero skills would prevent or lesser the odds of such 'actions' taking place.

Let's hope the next expansion will bring something like that.

Perhaps heroes assassinating governing heroes would be more effective, hired hitmen on the side being more of a gamble? Based on tech tree, the chance to ultimatly "kill" a hero would reside in tech in the farthest ring (such as planet destrction). Either way, hero level would be taken into consideration. The devs are working on an espoinage faction right now, this may be your chance.

I like your idea of the assassinating of a hero on the tech tree being on of the last techs in the outer ring of tech tree. That makes more sense, but It should not be a 100% kill. There has to be a counter balance to assassinating a govonor, like I said before, a level of guards around a govonor would help which you would also get from the tech tree.

I think it would need to be a chance of x% in corellation to difference in Level, Class and Race and also if Governor the Systems Defense-Force and as Admiral the Force of the Fleet, and maybe if there are exploration ships on the fleet(With scanners and stuff) the chance could be worsened.

Sorry for my bad english, It's 2 in the morning and I am rambling^^
