Chokeholds are important to repel early-game intruders, later (around early mid-game) you simply create more blockades/chokeholds to prevent intruders. I love this game for giving players agency in what they want to do: "
what ships do I have?" and the game would reply "make your own." There can be player more agency here too.
Tripwire ships (or laser-grid ships) would be set on two systems and would create a line between the two, any ships passing through would suffer damage/movement loss/debuff. Whichever the most appropriate and balanced. I feel like this could give the players another layer to play with in terms of stratergy. It could also slow down obliterator rounds, to give the player more time to move population from that system (though I am unsure about this bit is needed considering citadels).
The ships would have some limit, you shouldn't be able to have a tripwire going across the entire map for example. It would probably be used at the entrance of a leg or facing an opposing player. The ships themselves should also be vulnerable and would require some guarding.
I could be overlooking some gameplay features and this could be a very bad idea. I wouldn't know, I'm not in the best condition at the moment (little sleep). Thanks for reading! Happy Holidays!
