Turn Moons into reusable curiosities, bottomless temples filled with constantly increasing risks and constantly increasing loot value.

In the very last DLC for Endless Legend, Tempest, we got plenty of new locations to explore and conquer out on the high seas, including both Sunken Ruins and much more importantly, Fortresses!

Currently, Moons are treated as particularly important locations if you only look at their related technologies, but are themselves mere anomalies that provide a couple FIDSI bonuses and an extra pop slot, hardly living up to the hype.

My suggestion is that Moons be made into "mini-planets," with regenerating curiosities to explore, providing greater risks and rewards over time as players unlock larger expeditions to deeper levels of caves and ruins and ecological hidden oases.

This would provide a long-term, late game use for Exploration technologies and features, as well as create "Temples of Doom" for empires to fight over as a sort of Indiana Jones layer of strategy, making daring raids on lunar temples.

This would make Moons immensely important and provide some crossover between Exploration and Exploitation, serving as vast mega-dungeons of lost temples, laboratories, caverns, and all sorts of monsters and buried fleets to accidentally release onto an unsuspecting galaxy, as a meeting point between Endless Space 2 Curiosities and Endless Legend Fortresses, thus making Moons as important as their (still underpowered) Techs imply them to be.

If I could add something, perhaps add a small chance for these temples to become a sort of "Unique Anomaly" after some time exploring them. Each expedition has a small chance that a unique anomaly that can only be found during moon expeditions is found. It can be stuff like an intact Endless Lab that provides a science boost, or an old Moon Defense Cannon that provides a boost to defense.

These could help incentivize moon temples more. Of course, only one anomaly can be found per temple. But I do love the idea of a risk/reward dungeon I can send hapless explorers into.

Fantastic and creative idea.

I would have to agree that Moons, in their current iteration, are underwhelming.
