In Endless Legend, non-researched technologies that were obtained from quests or searching ruins appeared on the technology screen. This was extremely helpful in making research decisions for not only existing games, but future games (e.g., I could load an old saved game and glance at the technology screen to refresh my memory of non-researched technology options).
Endless Space 2 lacks such a centralized resource for tracking the numerous ship modules, system improvements, empire improvements, etc. that are obtained from quests and exploring curiosities. One method of accomplishing this would be to place the circle tooltips near comparable technologies, but on the border with the next tier. For example, 'Basic Plasmoid Shielding' which is obtained from a curiosity could be displayed on the tier 2/3 border near 'Basic Uniform Shielding' to which it is superior. This would be useful information to a player considering whether or not to research that particular technology.
For modules or improvements with no clear similarity to researchable items, they can simply be gathered on the opposite side of the tier border at the center. The tier assignments would be judgment calls, but at the very least they would be searchable.
If the embedded approach above has a high development cost (e.g., it would make the screen too cluttered requiring a redesign), a quick and dirty option would be to simply gather all non-researched items into a rectangular box on the right side of the technology circle.
The items can simply be placed in the box in the order they are acquired. Players looking for specific items can zoom in and browse them chronologically or use the search box.
