Liking the cinematic space battles, but i thought greater direction during the battle itself would allow players to adjust tactics to what the enemy does.

This option could be turned on or off or only appear in the advanced options.

The battle can be split into several phases. (Long/ medium / short) (Could even have to researched to allow advanced tactics)

Before each phase starts, you can choose the tactic to counter the enemy or adapt to the range of combat.

For example.

Phase 1 starts in the normal set up screen and you choose the tactic,

The cinematic starts along with a count down timer to the next phase. The enemies tactic is displayed. Before the next phase starts, a new tactic can be selected in a menu at the bottom of the screen. If no new tactic is chosen, the previous tactic remains extant.

Phase 2 starts without any interruption to the cinematic, all ships adopting the tactics chosen and moving to their new positions etc. ( this could allow the player to shore up weaker fronts if some ships are lost)

Countdown timer to next phase begins and next tactic can be chosen.

Phase 3 begins and the battle is decided

You could split tactics down to two seperate cards, one relating to movement (for each battlegroup e.g ahead, turn to port or turn to starboard) to allow for battlegroups to support each oter and bring weapons into range, and the overall battle tactic (e.g shield wall, turtle, hard target etc)
