A thing I like to see implemented is the isolation feeling that I had early game when playing ES1. What I mean by that, when I play a new game, with maybe spiral galaxy or what ever one, if I explore a little,  I usually can find about 6 other stars systems. So due to the early game tech, I am locked in to exploring only Cosmic Sting Lanes and can only explored those 6 star systems. This really gives a player that feeling of just starting to explore the stars and that isolated feeling of being in that section of the galaxy. This also gives to played time to figure out his game plan, maybe research or build up a little.

Once playing a few matches back then I found out how to research the Wormhole travel faster and a player can aim for that if they want to access it earlier. After completing the research for Wormhole tech I felt really accomplished by this feat and was ready to explore more at that point. I felt the power behind that tech and was ready to use my advancements to find new Factions. And the same goes for the Warp Drive tech.

The cool thing I liked about that early on isolation feel, was that Sophons. They would traverse into my area of the galaxy, and that felt really awesome. I felt in awe at their technology advancements early on. In most cases it made me focus and driven to get into that Worm Hole tech faster.

Now I haven’t played ES2 since the summer and I have tested this back then with all kinds of settings to try to relive that ES1 early game isolation feel, but I never could really achieve it. I think I was locked in at maybe a dozen stars with another Faction in there with me, in that part of the galaxy. I mean in ES1 I didn’t have to do anything to set this up but just play the game with most default settings. This is one of the major things that draws me back into ES1 is that early isolation phase, its very memorable for me, maybe that's why I like it a lot and hope it is possible it could be replicated in some way in ES2. Being locked in with maybe, a 6 to 8 start system with a Minor Faction would not be bad, but with maybe, a Major Faction, no way.

Having this worked into ES2 may change the early game-play a lot or a little, it may bleed into later game and change the whole game strategy a lot. So this isolation thing may or may-not be a good idea, but this is why I am throwing the idea out there and see what comes of it or not.

There are settings when creating a new game to increase the number of constellations. That being paired with a map larger than the amount of empires you are playing with (Example: Large map made for 8, but you play with 4) should help as long as you have standard empire spacing set . You can also turn down the Minor civilization amount there too. However you did say you messed with some settings, so if this does not give any new information I apologize. It may just be the feel of the game that prevents you from feeling isolated as this game has a more lively interface, music and interactions than the previous game did.

Yeah I played with most settings, it just doesn't give the same feel. I think what made ES1 unique with it, was that the star lanes where not long and like the 5 stars or so seem clustered up, some what. I wouldn't mind a minor civ in with me. The default way ES1 did it was very nice. The best way to understand the feel, is fire up ES1 and play a few turns. I'm not complaining by any means by ES2.

Thanks for the suggestions, when I get around playing some ES2 soon, I will try again. I'm waiting for another update or two, to play again.
