Gas Giant Habitats (System Enhancement)

Quick Description:

Gas giants are, by the very name, giant planets of gas.  Even the smallest of those in our own solar system (Neptune) could hold Earth and 57 duplicates (58 Earths).  This would mean that there is a whole lot of room for all sorts of beings to find a place to settle.  Obviously this would be rather difficult in that you'd need the right technology, some very savvy engineering, and a hefty amount of effort and construction to have a place to live that would stay in the right layer and survive all the crazy atmospheric action that (we assume) would be happening.  What about having this kind of thing in ES2?

Issue:

Gas Giants in ES2 do not have very high population capacity, in the early game they have a single slot and in the later game the largest (huge) gas giant has all of six slots after all system enhancements are built.  This seems limited given the size and given the technology the Endless had to use (or the player during the later parts of long games).  For point of reference, in the later game, with all system enhancements built, the smallest (tiny) forest planet has eight slots.

Idea:

Create a new technology that allows the building of a system improvement called "Gas Giant Habs", or something like that, which increases the total population on a gas giant based on it's overall size.  Conceivably this could even be broken down by the type of gas giant as well due to the predictability of the atmosphere and thus difficulty in building the habs or encouraging people to move there.  Since the gas giants come with some pretty significant FIDS numbers the technology would invariably need to be in one of the later tiers and the system improvement should have a hefty construction, and probably strategic resource, cost.

The increase could look something like this:

Simple (size only)

Advanced (size and type)

I like this idea. It would be great if the lights on the gas giant became brighter or more numerous when Habs are built.

Yea pretty good idea... but you have to keep in mind that Gas Planets have far more stronger FIDSI than other planets. some specific types of gas planets have about two times, or nearly about 3 times, income compared to other planets. Plus, there are already specific improvements that increase the amount of POP you can place in gas giants by 3, but they are researchble as a last tier technology, in economy and trade section (i think its there)

I think the reason the devs did it this way, of having few pops in those planets, is because those gas giants have far more FIDSI than other planets. Plus, making some sort of crap planets, could help to make the feeling of finding a good system. Because if every planet in game where good and filled whit pop, what is the joy of finding a system whit 5 lava planets as riftborn if you could simply find 5 burning gas giants that offers even greater bonueses for you? I think it would ruin a little bit the happyness of finding a good system whiteout gas giants... they serve as a important factor for RNG, i believe. :/

It is true that the base FIDSI values for Gas Giants is higher in total and in the specific area that each type has emphasis than in any other planet type.  It is also something to keep in mind the base max population of each planet is always higher than the Gas Giants, which is one (1) for any size and type.  This means the base number of FIDSI is as high as it ever gets before tech/system enhancements.  Another point to keep in mind is that while there are a few techs that boost population on Gas Giants there are more for all the others.  Let's look at a few planets numbers using the current game (not adding in my idea) to see the differences.  Keep in mind that these numbers are as close as I can figure, there might be some differences depending on unique racial traits, tech, system enhancements, curiousities, quests, etc.
