Railguns and Swarm missles need serious rework

After many hours spent in the game and a considerable number of weapon tests, i think this two type of special weapons need hard rework.


Railguns:

The main drawback of this weapon is the idea of the developers that it should work similarly with autocannon, with all their disadvantages, although it is totally two different type of weapon.

Despite the fact that in game the railgun ignores shields and armor, they have equal with autocannon accuracy and less damage, but when autocannons enchanted with modules on critical hit chance to 100% (complete ignore of any protection), the railgun completely lose the meaning of existence.

Idea is the make railguns similar to AoE blast weapon, but with diffirent role and effect. AoE blast work like killer of small ships swarms, well railguns must be a single big ships killers and work like old battleship big artillery.

Concept is simple:

  • 1 - its a big weapon, in they are big and hard to use, so only middle and big ships can use it (easy for ballance and prevent overspam on small ships for killing big ones by numbers), open tech place on same tier with AoE blast one.

  • 2 - long range, accuracy be 100/100/100 or 80/90/100 (in most sci-fi books, films, game railguns is long range sniper weapon, it dont have problems with recoil when shooting, that autocannon has)

  • 3 - good vs big, bad vs small ships, give railguns revers moddifers that AoE blast weapon have, this is single target weapon, specialized vs big and middle size ships. (dps vs big/middle/small ships - 150/100/50%, vs small maybe even less, for prevent one-shoots, but anyway we have Aoe blast).    addition - also can be added same debuff effects - reduce defence or evasion

Swarm missles:

well, these weapons are not less complicated than a railgun, depending on usage, disadvantages are different.

if used as a weapon, the damage is just ridiculous, especially against ships with good armor, if make it higher they would devalue the regular missles, especially in the current game version, when the flaks dominated over missles.

if used as a support system for conventional missiles, there are two problems,

  • first - low firing speed, which does not allow to implement support for each volley of standart missiles.

  • second - the low speed of flight of the missiles themselves, they often fly in a pile of missiles or even behind them.

Summary:

  • 1- increase the firing rate of swarms, damage can be neglected, and make it synchronized with other missiles, or little faster.

  • 2 - slightly increase the flight speed of swarms so they were ahead of the main salvo and caused an overload of flaks before flying the rest of the missiles.

  • 3 - balance numbers and hp of swarm salvo, they must be good counter vs 1 flak per ship builds, but not more op.

I like the idea of Railguns being big, Heavy slot only might be the best way to implement that. I disagree with accuracy changes however, you are steal dealing with a projectile versus speed of light.

railguns have same difference in speed/accuracy  vs kinetics, and we have combat on sub-light speed in system,  also in game even lasers have "move speed", but they are "light" weapons =), i know this is sounds crazy ))).
problem is the even beams with many crit mods can work like railguns (green ones also have aoe effect),  so just nerf accuracy not change much, aoe blast have 100% accuracy, but limited in use and middifers, based on target ship size, that good balance it and easy can be changed.
