Allow industry to Dust, Science conversion from start of game

Currently in the early game, even on higher difficulties, it is very easy to wind up with nothing to produce in your systems but ships because your production outpaces scientific research. So many players are left with a bad choice: either build ships, thus increasing Dust upkeep and bumping up political ideologies they might not want; build inefficient system improvements, or just do nothing. Sure, you can sell the excess ships and unwanted buildings, but that is not an ideal option and involves excess micro.

By giving players the ability to convert industry into Dust or Science (or, who knows, Influence or Food or some other yield) from the start of the game, even if it is an inefficient conversion, we will no longer have to make these undesirable or detrimental choices, or engage in excess micro. It would also allow empires to make up some ground if they are lacking in dust or science generation, which are critical in the early game.

This conversion ratio would be very low: perhaps 10% efficiency. The technologies that unlock Industry-Dust or Science conversion would still exist; in fact they would remain unchanged. But now, players aren't required to take them unless they want to increase this conversion efficiency.

Do you think this is still needed today? meaning do you feel that you can get empty queues early on the game with our latest tweaks? we would love to avoid having all the gameplays available from the start.

I would rather add a standard "storage"/"silo" building (200 Industry cost), which stores a percentage of excessive resources if queue is empty and does not affect senate. We need some era 1 solution.

I believe Vodyani are in a better position with Alms for Essence, but I agree with the OP's point. Having nothing to do with your Industry is disturbing and leads to poor strategic choices.

Devs, please consider letting us convert Industry to Dust/Science from start, albeit at a reduced rate from what Research allows, and rework the existing techs to boost the conversion ratio.

Spending production to produce consumer goods in order to buff happiness could also be an option; an upgraded option could be unlocked when one unlocks an upgraded version of production -> dust.

I follow your idea. Just keep the conversion tech like it is, BUT give to the player a "storage", it look like Boosters in Endless Legends.

It should be more simple and easy to manage, so here : Industry is stored automaticaly and ready to use next turns. Apply a % malus for storage. Example, only 25% of Industry is stored, and 50% with a appropriate tech.

I would rather they implement something like they do with science? Where when you queue is empty after a production you can 'store' up to 2x your production amount. This could possibly allow you to bank your production for 2 turns with nothing in queue, during which you could find something worthwhile to build. This could be useful at all levels of the game.

It is technically like a 100% silo for 2 turns but then it becomes 'full' of production, and can't store more. I guess I feel like there should be some cap on how much you can store. Now that I think more about it, 25% stored over the course of 8 turns might feel better. Instead of hitting max at 2 turns then still leaving it empty for more.
