Well the portals are their actuall faction affinity (look at it when creating a custom faction), so if you remove it or nerf it to much then there's not much left as the cryo ship and the pirate pact with disguising as pirates are bothonly aditional traits that can be assigned independantly, though pirate pact and portals have the synregy to use pirate bases as portals.
