Changing Gas Giants based minor factions starting position

Hello,

during my last playthrough, the AI controlled cravers were starting quite close to a gas giant owned by deuyivan. This could have happened to me (I was playing sophons).

Although an assimilation of the deuyivan would have been quite interesting to me as a sophon player, I would not have been happy to do it this early in the game. The reason? Gas giants owned by minor factions currently have 1 population slot only, as long as some high level techs have not been researched, which makes them uninteresting at the beginning of the game.

I would therefore suggest to place the minor factions living on gas giants as far as possible from the major ones. For instance, in a spiral galxy, they could be located in the central part only and not in the arms.

This way, they would be more interesting when the players/AIs would find them as it would occur later in the game and this would avoid a situation where a player/AI is disadvantaged because he will be bothered by a neutral minor faction close to his starting position he does not want to deal with.

If this is the most balanced way of solving 'the problem', then definitely, here's an upvote.

But would it be too destabilizing to just add an extra population slot or two to minor faction-controlled gas giants? That is overridden by the default population slot # upon researching the appropriate colonization tech?

If its easy for the devs to implement that in Galaxy generation they should definitely go for it. It would make sense in lore terms too, because usually stars in the center of the galaxy are older, and it would make sense that the Deuyivan might have taken a little longer to evolve!

Ok, so I thought this one was dead born as for long, it just received one upvote, but it lately got a lot of support. Thanks for all the comments. I actually like your suggestion TheTakenKing, but in the end I think that even addidng 1 or 2 slots does not solve the issue: would you prefer starting diplomacy with a minor faction with a population of 7 or one with only 3? Also, I got the actual case during a playthrough with UE, where I was simultaneously doing diplomacy with Epistis and Deuyivan. The system containing the Epistis became one of my major one (before being taken over by AI sophons I underestimated, which basically meant game over for me^^), whereas the Deuyivan one was remaining with a useless 1 population for a long time, before I could start expanding it.

I still think the easiest solution is to put Deuyivan and Eyder at the center of galaxies where they will not be contacted at the beginning of the game. Another solution would be to add the 1-2 slots and allowing the player to colonize the same type of giant gas planet with the same number of slot than the minor faction when assimilated, but I think it would be difficult balancing it to be honest.

So few points missing...
