Hello there! In my opinion, in most cases pirates are really annoying, especially in early game. You try to explore the galaxy, collect some resources, find another players' location, but most of it would not happen, because pirates would kill your ship soon. They have military ships, when you dont have any and there are some more important technologies to research, instead of military ship haul. Also they siege your systems and can stay there for a long time, seriously cutting your income of dust, food, production. Of course, you can disable pirates before the game starts, but it's not so interesting to play without them completely. So, what about adding some options to solve the problems caused by pirates? What about adding bribing function for example, they will not attack your faction for certain amount of turns if you give them some quantity of dust, food, resources? I think it is an interesting game function and it wont break the game's balance and stuff like this...

Really like the idea. Some way to interact with them other than war... Could have some bad side effects too, like more pirates, cos they can afford new ships.

This ^^

Negotiating with pirates. Short term gain of peace for long term problem of more pirates.

...but, hey. Maybe you could convince pirates to bother your enemies?

Won't be a long-term problem either if you can afford to keep bribing them. (Cough Trading Companies Cough)

Well, the pirates could always just raise their bribe cost over time...

Also, Wouldn't it make more sense for the strength of pirates to rise proportionally to the number of trading companies in the galaxy? More to steal, more wealth... wouldnt that in turn mean more pirates?

I mean, if there are ZERO trade routes, what exactly are the pirates even after? But if there's WEALTH UNIMAGINABLE available for them, people would be lining up to join their crews.

Generally, I think the game could benefit from more dynamic pirates.

If you submit this as its own idea, you have my vote. Dynamic pirates would be interesting.

Dynamic pirates would be interesting.

Well, I've included this idea into a larger, more cohesive one here.

A link back to this original idea (among others) was also provided. Honestly, I'd be happy if any of these changes were implemented. But, this idea is, in my opinion, a more critical component to improving pirates.

I'm a fan of this idea because it seems to capture a lot of value for a smaller development investment (that's a guess of course). I'd love to have a better way to interact with pirates than combat, especiall on more peaceful races.
