Since I bought Early Access and first played it, one thing kept bothering me - apparently Vodyani and Lumeris race names were erroneously mixed-up. Now I will try to explain why I think so. I look at two things - a racial concept or image and root words in their names. Vodyani sounds a lot like a slavic word vodyanoi - merman, a mythological creature living in marshes and other bodies of water, derived from slavic word voda - water. Lumeris sounds to be derived from lumiere - french word meaning light. It seems strange why a race of sea-slugs is called with name impliyng light, while a race of beings of golden light living inside their black suits have "watery" name. I know the game`s release is just around a corner, but I humbly ask devs to changes names at least in game`s text files. I believe what once a game is released a slavic-speaking community will bother you about this any way, so why not make a change prior to release.

I knew that vodyanoi are fish people from the Witcher, but since it's different, then it's different.

I could argue that the Lumeris are all about the glittering dust, while the Vodyani are uplifted from the depths, in some way.

Both vodyani and vodyanoi have the same root part and the difference in actual word structure can be attributed to a change from singular to plural form of a word. Still I think a more direct correlation between a racial concept and their name would be better, rather than a more metaphorical one as you suggest. And since there were no upvotes last few days it seems most people don`t care or don`t agree with my idea anyway, which is quite unfortunate.

I always went off the assumption that the race was responsible for its name. Under that logic it matters very little about linguistic conventions and cultures of human history.

Solid logic you have. Yet we can also assume what names we see in the game a just a creation of devs, for example a pronounceable versions of racial real names. We can argue for a long time unfortunately. This issue can only be settled then and if one of devs graces this humble thread by his presence.

This made me mess up these races several times already. I suggested it long time ago, but it seems this idea have most traction.
