Gas Giant FIDSI

Galaxy Generation

I've been thinking about this for a long time. First, here's how Gas Giants look in the game currently:

Having those 6 types of gas giants in the game looks really nice. We have 6 visual gas planets but in terms of gameplay we only have 3. Obviously 3 of those gas giants should be somehow different from the other 3.

One option would be to implement gradients, maybe like this:

Frozen: 26

Cold: 13 13

Temperate: 5 18 3

Warm:  3 18 5

Hot: 13 13

Burning: 26

Or maybe some other similar way. The issue here is that with only  across 6 Gas Giant types I don't see any way for a really nice uniform FIDSI distribution.

What else would be possible?  could be added, probably to temperate and warm, though it would deduct from the , unless Temperate/Warm should be more valuable in terms of total FIDSI.

Or keep the  as they are and instead add some techs to change the FIDSI on Gas planets, maybe something that only adds  depending on temperature. Maybe add another tech that adds no  to Frozen/Burning, some  to Cold/Hot and a lot of  for Temperate/Warm. Or have some tech for influence but that, again, would most likely affect Temperate/Warm.

Yet another possibility would be to add humidity (or something else) and expand the Gas Giant grid to be more comprehensive, which would be cool for Deyuvian species. Maybe even make it impossible to terraform Gas Giants to Telluric planets.

To be honest though, this seems very complicated and potentially out of scope.

Any more suggestions or numbers on this would be nice.

The idea of having Food as a naturally occurring resource on gas planets seems a bit silly.

And why not just make Temperate all Dust?

Not necessarily if you also have Deyuvian species in the game.

That's what I had thought about but it would conflict with then having a Temperate provide no  while Warm would provide some , that wouldn't be intuitive or understandable at all.

Hmm, how about this: Maybe warm and temperate gas planets could also give some ? As in they're a kind of prestigious place to live on? (Sounds a bit silly, to be honest, but anyway.)

I like the way you've split up the FIDS! Or rather, IDS. I would personally prefer sticking with that, rather than any of your other suggestions. That would help with the problem you've talk about elsewhere that the extreme specialization of planets means less depth in gameplay and less interesting choices for exploitations.

I like this suggestion. Voting for:

Frozen: 26

Cold: 13  13

Temperate: 5  18  3

Warm:  3  18  5

Hot: 13  13

Burning: 26

Gas giant IDS yields from the initial post. Maybe even differentiate Temperate and Warm further:

Temperate: 8  15  3

Warm:  3  15  8

With this setup, though, temperate and warm gas giant    yield actually ends up lower than Deserts, which doesn't make sense if you want to think of gas giants as being extreme.

In regards to gas giants and Deuyvian food production: the Deuyvians are a specialized species, the only ones in-game that evolved on gas giants, so it makes sense that their populations can grow there. I don't think that other species should be able to inherently grow food on gas giants, given their extreme natures.

Currently in the game there are 3 gas giant specific anomalies that give bonuses to dust, science and influence. I think gas planets following a similar theme would be nice.

If you look at Lava/Barren planets at 16 Industry/Science - 2 Dust production, they have 3 starting pop average which makes their total FIDSI output with population taken into consideration at 54 with 48/6 split not even considering the additional bonuses from SSI to production/science because of planetgameplaytype. A Burning/Frozen Gas will have a starting population of 2 for 54 FIDSI output. Given the derth of buildings boosting based on gas planets or population on a gas planet I think the numbers should even be higher.

Frozen: 30 science

Cold: 15 science, 15 Dust

Temperate: 30 Dust

Warm: 10 Influence

Hot: 15 Industry, 15 Dust

Burning: 30 Industry

Give the temperatures in game are cold/temperate/hot i went with those as the transitions. Warm is something only for gas so that's why I made it influence. It could also be renamed to something not dealing with temperature/climate to make it seem less out of place.
