When you get siege window pop-up you don't have the population number on it. You have to do additional actions to check popultion in the system and what nation is used for defending.

You have to manually leave the window, go to the system, check population number, then to return you have to click on the siege icon again.

3. How it would be great:

This way you can see the population of the planet, what nations are there and also choose which one to use for spending on conscription.
