Diplomatic Victory Idea

At the moment there is no diplomatic victory condition in Endless Space 2. I enjoyed Endless Legend, but felt that the diplomatic victory became a little shallow and was more about spamming peace then war then peace to build up your points towards a diplomatic victory.

The idea of this diplomactic victory is to provide a balanced way for all major factions to achieve a diplomatic victory even if they are not diplomatically focused. It is also aimed at giving a way to know that someone is trying to get a diplomatic victory, give multiple strategic options to counter them and also give you something in return. The idea is as follows.

When all races are met or possibly after a certain amount of turns are complete the option for the Endless senate becomes available much like other games that use this kind of diplomatic senate approach a certain amount of votes are needed to declare diplomatic victory.

The way to obtain another races vote however is based on the requirements they select for you to complete, once you have completed their requirment their vote is automaticlly given to you. You can only try to obtain one vote at a time and this must be completed before trying to obtain the next vote of a different major faction. After collecting all of the major factions votes you obtain a diplomatic victory.

In the Endless senate you first choose a major faction they will then give you their one vote requirement this is choosen by the A.I or human players you play against they will choose one vote requirement out of the four choices. If a major faction was trying to obtain a diplomatic victory of their own and wanted your vote you would be able to choose one of the  four vote requirments for them to  complete in order to earn your vote.

Below are examples of the five vote requirements needed to obtain a major faction's vote and also ways the the A.I or human players could use these to their advantage and the new levels scheming it would bring to the game.

1.Military – The goal is to complete ten ships of the 3rd tier  Empire Development quadrant, once these are completed the ten ships are given to the major faction automatically and you earn their vote.

Counter- The military vote counter is quite clear, if the Cravers requested a military choice for their vote you've just given them ten ships that they can now use to come and invade you or for general Craver mischief.

2.Economic– The goal of the economic vote would be to give a certain amount of dust to the major faction who requested the economic requirement.

Counter– Once the dust has been giving to the major faction it now counts towards their total for economic victory. This would make a good choice if you were playing Lumerians trying for a economic victory or if you just wanted to get rich quick.

3.Science– The goal of science vote would be to provide the major faction with any two technologies from the tier 4 technologies quadrants of their choice.  After providing the technologies you would obtain their vote.

Counter– Of course, it's always nice to get two free technologies reseached for you and could be used in multiple ways to improve your empire.

4.Influence-  The goal of the influence vote would be to supply a certain amount of influence to the major faction who requested the influence choice much like the economic vote.

Counter– Influence is always nice to have, even better if your are the unfallen and could  use the newly acquired influence to take over the major faction's planet who just gave you the influence or possible even use it build new ships with  if you were the United Empire.

Once all the requirements are completed for each major faction the economic victory is achieved.

So, there it is, the general information of my idea for a new diplomactic victory condition. I know I went on a little longer than I should have, and it still needs work but it's not so easy to explaina and give an idea of the new layers of stratigic depth I think it would add to the game in a few paragraphs. Anyhow, just humour me, ok ;-)

Some things that might be interesting to include:

In the formation of such an Endless senate, there could be a choice as to how votes would be broken down: by population, by star systems, or one vote per major faction. Depending on how a major faction will be represented is how willing they'll be to join.

Unassimilated minor factions might want to join and there should be rules for them as well.

Cravers might simply not be able to join due to the Eternal War (and thus if their senate is Miltaristic, even if you can get everyone else on board, you'd still have to take them out).

There can be several actions promoting or demoting a given ideology/minor faction/senate law/luxury resource/whatever you can think of (so even if you're not trying to win diplomatically, having a lot of Influence could help your empire in the Endless senate).

It might be broken apart when the Academy quests trigger due to intra-senate conflict.

Really good points, Lemezak. I had thought about including minor factions and needing to use a certain amount of influence to get their relationship with you to a point where they would give you their vote. I wanted to suggest an idea that was balanced with the other victory conditions and would roughly take the same amount of time to complete. I must admit your points on the Cravers and Academy quests do bring up some problems. Would we have to give up on Craver lore(Eternal war) to get a diplomatic victory in regards to the Cravers. I really hate the Cravers ;-)
