One thing I miss from Endless Legend is that I could see the architecture of my cities. My cities visibly grew, my lands were visibly built up, and I was changing the world.

Endless Space 2 completely lacks this right now. From the galaxy view, I cannot tell which worlds are settled, how strong they are, or any other details except by whether a few small dots are filled, and in what color they are filled. It is a case of telling instead of showing, where I must read something to see how big a city is instead of just seeing how big it is.

Thus, I suggest adding some small visual indicators of settlement, even if they are not realistic or properly scaled. Things like small model stations, nondescript tiny ships milling about, things small enough as to probably be programmed as particles instead of proper models, which grow outward with a settlements population, influence, and system level.

In addition, I would suggest modifying the System Improvement illustrations to be animated and faction specific, so we can see what our settlements look like. This is all just window dressing in the end, but every chance to re-affirm a factions identity and visually show our progress seems like an important chance, since currently our faction identities don't seem to exist outside of the diplomacy screen, the Empire screen, our ship models and our quest lines.

I think having Space stations and ships orbiting your system would be pretty nice. Would be really cool if there were alot of ships coming in and out of your System if it has a Trading HQ in it!

Yeah, when I see "Implemented" I dont believe it. Is nothing implemented but the space stations.

Wonderful! It's too bad that I can't actually get into the game right now, due to some file corruption, but I look forward to seeing my suggestion at work nonetheless.

Right now it is THE feature i would like to see in game !

Unfallen, for example, should have roots in every planets, not just on the main one !

Heya,

Something like that was already implemented to some degree in ES with the Endless Wonders, but it would be awsome to have race-specific stuff on/in Orbit of the Planet. I wouldnt mind to even see big Megapoleis on the planets, but yea, a MOO would be ugly... Just in theory, could we be able to zoom more into the planets as done, when you click on a starsystem for the first time?

I was thinking about this myself today and I'm glad I wasn't the only one. Congrats on it being greenlit OP!

If I were to elaborate it wouldn't necessarily be structures jutting out of planets, unless that was a feature fitting to a certain race in the game, but i'd like to see at least lights on the surface of the planet and seeing it visibly populated with large cities covering more and more of the planet as the population increases. Maybe change the make up of it depending on what FIDSI structures are built (more green fields for agricultural focused planets) or which resource it's focused on.

+1, some lit up cities/colonies and ships/satellites orbiting the planet would be awesome!

Maybe you would be able to choose in the option the what kind of feedback you want to see (structure, starship, nightlight, nothing, etc...) and like that you would be able to customize howw you can see your colonies.

Interesting Idea, however the I believe its the realism that really captures the players imagination while playing games like this, and realistically from the view you see the planets in the system overview you wouldn't see much, if you start adding graphical features to the planets or systems that look unrealistically scaled then the immersion the player feels begin to disappear, don't miss understand but I do like this idea personally but not to a point where you have buildings and other features extending into orbit that wouldn't be there realistically... like on the new Master of Orion.

I like the idea of tiny space craft randomly orbiting around the planet showing advanced habitation and maybe a small space station, an awesome idea from lo_fabre of having urbanization effect lighting on the night side of the planets. but having oversized not to scale objects on the planets surface/orbit would do the game a discredit I believe. the Graphics and UI is amazing in this game and like most amazing things if you mess with it too much you will ruin it.

Endless Space has this feature. There you can see different textures on a planet and -depending on constructed buildings - even some space stations orbiting the planets! So it should be possible.

Ive just wanted to contribute the exact same idea but since you elaborated the problem quite well I will just upvote your contribution. :)

Ive also come from EL and at the moment there truly is no visual indicator of system development. (except the thicker border of the system name rofl) The nice visuals of EL kept me playing for 400 h in singleplayer only and I would really like to have the same motivation for ES2 since the already created factions are at least as interesting as the ones from EL as well as the setting of course. Without any changes to the visuals I dont see myself playing ES2 for more than 50 h although I had about 500 in EL so please do something devs. :(
