Fighters/Bombers Space DogFights in Battles

I know they have yet to release fighters and bombers but will there be improvements on them from Endless Space 1? In the first game we saw fighters and bombers yes but the fighter vs fighter combat consisted of head to head and one group of fighters would shoot the other. Fighters should be flying in between capital ships making strafing runs at the same time chasing other fighters doing various maneuvers to get on each others tails. Granted this is not exactly realistic in terms of real world physics but think all great Sci Fi has this element from Star Wars, Battle Star Galactica to Babylon 5. I hope they improve the dogfight animations and maneuvers in comparison to their previous game. 

Will squadrons have the ability to gain experience? Having a squadron of crack fighter pilots for the carrier group would be a cool feature to add more depth and complexity to the game, this would make them different from standard weapons hard points. Perhaps having hero fighter squadrons or bomber squadrons also?

I think what sets this game apart in terms of graphics is the attention to detail, the ships look like they do some damage with their hard point animations and damage models. A big step up in animation and graphically for ships from Endless Space 1 is already apparent. It is the best looking battles in a 4x that I've ever seen. Let us hope the same will apply to the Fighter Squadrons.

Now that bombers/fighters are delayed, I hope they can implement this idea.

What do you guys think of the fighters screenshots? I hope they release more like the appaerance of UE ships, Im very curious as to what shape they will take.

Those screen shots look great. As far as functionality goes I thought the bombers attack the capital ships and the fighters attack the bombers(and other fighters). Hopefully that's how it will be implemented in the game.

Yes Bombers will be used to kill big ships, unless that big ship has fighter protection, therefore attacking Bombers will do so with Fighter escort to cover them from enemy Fighters. I assume this is how it will go, based of beyond visual range horizon warfare of WW2 in the Pacific where Carriers showed their effectiveness with strike planes covering a far bigger range than the traditional Battleship.

Neat ideas. Also really hope they somewhere interesting with this concept.


Haven't seen ES 1 in action so can't tell how it was there, but most 4X games have a sorry excuse for Fighetes and Bombers. 

Considering that they do not have to worry that much abouth control here, I also hope they use this chance to give small crafts fancy maneuvers.


Regarding Heroes: hte last trailer shows heroes fighting in what seems to be fighert craft! If this is a teaser it is going to be great :) If not, shame on the trailer department


Also hope that harpoints do not only receive cosmetic damage but actually get destroyed though this brings up some questions regarding persistency (how is this tpye of damge then carried over to the Galaxy map and then to the next battle? Can this be calculated into the battel result estiamte and does the game allow for such mechanics at all?). Needless to say, if hardpoints can be destroyed, especially by bombers, and fighters try to prevent this from happening + shoot down rockets, the battels will become really interesting and might be worht a watch. Currently I only take a look so I can check out the new ship models I haven't seen in battles yet, but this will wear off quickly.


Overall: Small crafts should bring a big chuck of unceartanty into the game. Will the pilots be able to shoot down many rockets or not? They should be able to turn the tide in a battle but not a fixed number with which you cna calculate with - this makes for an interesting engagement

This would also allow for an aditional ship type that carries a large amount of bombers or fighters into battle and has some defense modules it can only equip that defense against fighters and bombers.

I really love this idea as well. Maybe certain hero ship types having module slots for strikecraft or a levelable hero skill that adds strikecraft module to their ship while improving the whole fleet's strikecraft performance? Pathfinder trailer had two heroes piloting fighters.
