Hi,
To put you in scene: actually I see two problems with the pacific assimilation tech:
- This is overpowered. Not extend here, lots of people complaining about this and some threads on same issue.
- It is not optional: once you started taking on a system you'll get this even if you don't want. This way you can end with very unhappy systems promoting rebellion, useless systems that waste your dust, or even worse: Cravers!
To solve both, my proposal is simple: you have to pay some influence, otherwise you won't take the system. To make this match with actual mechanics, my idea is that when you start assimilating a system, you can get immediately by paying influence like now, but with a very exaggerate price, to say 1k per pop (so it may even be 20K inf or more). Then the tech does two things: it lowers the price every turn, depending on system happiness and pop (more pop and more happy the price lowers slowly). Once you reach 0, instead of automatically taking over the system, you have to pay influence to take this, but this will be ridiculously low, to say 10 per pop (so 200 for a 20 pop system).
This system has various advantages:
- Allows you to choose if you want to assimilate a system or not.
- Gives a little defense against this mechanics (high approval, influence production and pop will make the assimilation slower, and may be at a point that is too expensive to assimilate the system before you reach the turn for an score victory).
- Makes this tech less OP.
- Gives a influence sink for mid and late game.
Also, take in account: numbers not tested, only a proposition, but it's easy to see the reasoning behind them. a part from this for sure it has its downsides, but can't see ATM, so if you do please post.
If you got any related way to make this tech less OP feel free to post here.
Cheers!
