It strikes me that being unable to see chat history on a MP game when joining late is unavoidable, but is it possible to allow host to post a brief Message to be pinned to the top of the chat in the lobby (and maybe in game as well.)
This message could include things like: rules to follow/not cross or get booted from the game. I don't know what these rules may be, but if you're playing a non-military MP campaign, and don't want people declaring war (I'm not saying that's a great way or fun to play), but it should be possible to prohibit any gameplay behavior as a matter of principle, i think.
ideally, The message should be scrollable in the chat window in-game, so that the message can be long enough without filling the entire chat window.
Or, just reserved for the lobby (which also would probably require a larger chat window, (vertically), though since all other chat history is absent when joining a lobby, it will be at the top upon entrance into it anyway, so there need not be any alteration to chat window size.
It could include a brief message about the intent of the host/players, or maybe some geographic info. Obviously, that's up to the host and any players consulted on the appropriate message.
My ideas dont seem to be getting much traction, except the one regarding ship skill building deemed out-of-vision or out-of-scope. I hope this minor change is something people can support.
