I really like the affinity system, which literally sets factions apart. Current affinities are fine, like special ways of colonization and unique abilities like singularity and influence shopping. But I am greed enough to ask for more.
There are quite a few of memorable affinities back in ES1 and EL, I mean, who can forget the technologists who have their fleets/armies teleporting all around, pushy diplomats who can force peace even alliance, or royal guards who forbids opponents from retreating?
While knowing creating entire new factions can be extremely costly, I think those somehow-less-costly affinities can be put in ES2. It can help players from ES1 and EL to recreate their beloved old factions in ES2, while also be cornerstone of brand new custom factions. Also, I'm looking forward to new creative affinities.
One step back, if creating new affinities is still too costly/hard, some of them can definitely come back as traits. We have seen precedence of Amoeba affinity came to EL as "deep connection" trait, maybe we can have more of that. I think old Sheredyn trait's first part can become a trait that cost 30 points or so, and more old/new "potential affinities" should be able to come out this way as well
