The problem:
- As was the case with Endless Legend, same heroes are spawn multiple times for the same playthrough.
- While the randomisation of the available heroes for hire is a great idea, and the pool of possible heroes has increased, we still end up with the same heroes around 2-3 times in a medium galaxy with 7-8 players
- There does not seem to be a limit to how many heroes a single empire and the galaxy as a whole can have
This does not only hurt the lore, but it also increases busywork for the player and decreases the importance of individual heroes - enough reasons to do some small changes
Recommended solution:
- Limit the occurance of a single Hero model to one instance per specific galaxy.
- Considerably reduce the speed heroes are generated: an average empire should only have around 5-6 heroes max per default at turn 200 and cap out
- Set a limit on the number of heroes each empire is allowed to have and display the available capacity in the heroes section
- Set a limit on the number of heroes the whole galaxy can have at any given time and display this capacity in the Academy screen (there is already hint in the game to the existnece of such limit but cannot confirm its existence). Advise to set the maximum capacity of the Academy to around 30% of the overal total capacity of all empires. e.g: 4 empires with a capacity of 5 heroes would equal a total number of: 20 heroes in game, but set the Academy limit to 6. This will encourage competition for heroes, and as some empires are eliminated the effective pool can grow
- Allow some technology, events and the ownership of the Academy to increase the maxium capacity of the empire to furhter increase competition.
- Get rid of the scroll screen in the heroes menu as it obscures information and results in a lot of clicking. Instead, size the window in a way that all heroes can be fully displayed even when the maximum possible capacity per empire in the game is reached (counted with all bonues from tech, Academy and events)
These changes would put more emphasis on the heroes in single playthroughs, prolonge the games lifecycle (as new heroes are found even after several playthroughs) and considerably reduce micromanagement.
