As it stands Faction Quests can be worth doing, but they personally feel like a letdown. They are based off of themes of evolving, or rising to a greater level on the galactic stage, or both, yet they do not seem to actually provide new powers or change to an empire with the sole exception of the UE being able to change their population type. I think that, ideally, completing the Faction Quest should at some point give you either:

  1. Some manner of new ability (For example, the Vodyani Acadamy could be used to give unique bonuses to heroes at the cost of Essence)
  2. The capacity to change or improve their poulation (Ex. the Cravers becoming the Wasp by serving the Endless)
  3. A building or Factionwide bonus that improves on the Faction Affinity rather that just FIDSI (Ex. the Cravers building something to turn depletion point production from Craver Pops on fully depleted systems into happiness, FIDSI, and strategic resource bonuses if they rebel against the endless)

Keep in mind, the examples are just meant to illustrate what I am talking about here.

I have to agree that when compared to UE other quests can feel like quite a letdown, but then you have to respect that UE is in fact a sum of the UE, Sheredyn and Vaulters from ES1, it is a nice touch to be able to become each (although respectfully, sheredyn should not be a hissho-like pop, they should be buyout heavy dust pop).

Lumeris final quest reward seems like a joke with only one really useful option being one you can just research instead.

What do vodyani need all the excess influence for anyway? They can't even convert buyout systems.

But then of course there is the other viewpoint, faction quest should not be something you absolutely neccesarily need to follow. So you need to avoid having it gamebreaking influence without proper investment, but then the investment bring the questline into question.

What I was trying to say is that you shouldn't have to do them, they should just give more thematic and overt bonuses and changes, as opposed to what we have now.

I also thought that is was a bit odd that the Sheredyn were Hissho like pops, especially since the UE starts with Hissho.

But then, aren't they interesting?

Provided you have sufficient amount of choices and branches, it should be easy to follow and in some cases even treated as a relevant faction bonus, take it or leave it, but it is there.
