Graphics settings don't change anything visibly, except the resolution

The two main graphics settings are "quality level" and "resolution". I've experimented with a few different resolutions and in all resolutions the "quality level" does not affect the graphics. I've tried the lowest and highest quality level settings on both low and high resolutions and all quality levels for a given resolution look exactly the same. I even screenshotted a bunch of them to compare side by side and they are identical. Is this a common problem? I couldn't find anything about it in the forums.

I also tried adding a custom Nvidia configuration for Endless Space, which it did not have listed by default. Changes made in the Nvidia control panel for Endless Space also had no effect. Again I tried turning everything off/down and then up to max and the screenshots still look identical.

I made sure to restart the game after changing settings either in-game or through Nvidia.

Any thoughts?

Maybe the graphics settings only effect battles you watch? It looks like most of the game is in 2D basically (ships look like sprites, so do planets and whatnot). So the quality level may only adjust 3d stuff.

Most games the graphic settings seem to only effect 3D - like draw distance, number of polygons, filtering (like antistropic), and mipmaps. I suspect antialiasing to effect 2D, but depending on what type they choose, might not be heavy hit on GPU.

Just my random 2 cents.
