AI trapping fleets using cease fire

The AI has a habit of blockading their own planet where I have a fleet immediately after signing a cease-fire, which means my fleet is trapped on their planet for 20 turns until the cease-fire wears off because I can't leave the planet or attack their ships. This seems like an exploit the AI is taking advantage of. Is this normal? Do I have to remember to manually return every fleet before accepting a cease-fire to avoid this?

Do what I do. Attack and destroy their fleet for the experience before accepting the cease fire.

However, if you have a fleet at a system that has multiple enemy fleets, then decline the cease fire or you will be stuck.

A simpler answer to your last question is "yes." Be very careful before accepting a cease fire!

Incidentally, if it's reversed and they have ships blockading one of your planets and you'd like them to leave, simply drop your blockade. Usually, they will leave your system. If not, you can at least attack them (unless your system is under their influence).

I've noticed this as well, and I think I'¨ll have to be more careful n the future.

some of my political moves turn out to be rather bothersome mistakes.

But you learn something everyday.

I noticed this as well, this works the other way around (you can trap the AI's fleets, far more exploitative).

A cease fire should include the ability to ignore each other's blockades (but still respect borders)

Agreed, at the very least you should be able to retreat your fleets from eachother's borders immediately after signing a cease-fire. Maybe it should even occur automatically like some other games handle it.

It could also work in a way similar to how you can normally retreat from a blockade by fighting and then using the retreat action.

Yeah, fleets should automatically retreat out of ENY territory.

This is the most annoying thing in the game to me. I had to stop playing a game because of this. My best fleet with a hero and another fleet got stuck this way because I had the choice to accept the cease fire OR lose my Alliance with the other two factions that agreed to it. So, do I throw away the three race Alliance that I built up over the course of the whole game or let my best fleets get trapped in a system for 20 turns while the enemy keeps building up IT'S fleet with more and more ships. This is truly a pain in the ass.
