how to improve my relationship with a faction so i can make peace with it.

sophon 2 is my neighbour and we've been trading a lot of tech togheter but i can't make peace with it...

i have the tech to make peace by the way.

why???

Have a big military, so they fear you, don't expand too much and kill their enemies. Those are the three traditional ways of making friends.

But I agree, it is very hard to make peace, so far.

At the moment AI is very aggresive and needs to be tuned

Yeah I agree, I had been trading via diplomacy with one race to improve relations and decided to invade another race who had a system between us thinking i would get a trade route going alas this turned the race i was trying to improve relations with hostile, even though I witnessed them try to Invade the same system a few turns back and failed, I thought they would have liked I got the enemy back for them.

mmmh ok... but i thought big military would make them suspicious... no?

But a small military actually gives you negative points for you being weak.

I think I'm going to see how well I fair if I focus on military doing research for the better ship models and weaponry and only colonizing just enough to support my war efforts, see how well I can control both empire approval and diplomacy ratings.

Realistically it's possible they wanted the system for themselves. I know if i had tried to take a system i wanted for whatever reason and failed, and then just seen you swoop in and take it for yourself would probably annoy me as well :P.

haha yea I guess, what I should do now is attempt to trade that system via diplomacy and then see what effect that has with relations.



EDIT: Ok tried, they accepted and turned hostile, then declared ware. tried it with another neutral race again accepted and turned hostile, so far have not declared war.
