Have I just been really lucky, or is the AI weak against (and not compensating for)..

Missile spam. Sorry, title is a bit long.

Perhaps after 20 or so turns of continuous combat the AI should start designing ships with more Chaff defenses, aye? But about 250 or so turns in one savegame and 90 or so turns in this new one, Missiles seem the way to go.

By extension this could also mean the AI doesn't compensate for one weapon type, assuming it is true and I'm not just insanely lucky.

What difficulty are you playing on? When I played on newbie, I ran up against AI who used one kind of weapon (missiles) and then defended against one thing (kinect, oddly enough). I figured the AI would smarten up on higher difficulties, cause the AI became a pushover once I outfitted my ships with Beam and Chaff.

Also, I think the different races do different defenses and offenses, but that's just an assumption, since I realized the focus of the AI late in the game when I had one race left to obliterate.

Normal, if that means anything.

Weird. Perhaps it's something that will be addressed as the game develops, or higher difficulties mix it up.

My ai were all kinect , i just rolled through them with missiles .. I think the ai should pick up what your using and start adjusting for the prefect mix against your armada of ships.

Missiles seem incredibly powerful, but towards the midgame I find your ships are not actually going to live long enough to fire them if you set them up as missile launching glass cannons, especially once lasers start rolling out.

Missile are deadly because they are the first thing that is fired. A good volley can end the battle at long range. So the AI should be well aware of that.

That does not reflect my experience at all. I've always only seen missiles being fired at the very end of each combat phase, while lasers and kinetic start firing instantly.

What I mean is that missiles get a boost in the long range, beams get a boost in the medium range and kinetic get a boost at close range.

So a lot of missiles can end the battle (thanks to the boost)

Yeah same. while i go with missle spam for the ungodly damage. My missles never fire till near the end of the phase and land at the end of the phase.

Ditto, missiles are the last thing fired in a round. Against a strong enemy I can often lose a few ships in Round 1, even if I manage to obliterate all of theirs subsequently.

So I see on Normal craven fleet bulid with Missile ships with deflector shields. It works great against me because I ave fleet with only kinetic weapons.

Meyby AI just dont have defence against missile or just fight enemies who dont use missile against them.

BTW I just think that there should be basic types of missile /beams and defence against them avialable on start.

Not true, albeit I wish it were.

Missiles take time before they fire.

Before that, you can fire a couple of volley of kinetics and some beams...

Missiles are deadly when they come in, tho. smiley: smile

I did the same thing with Lasers. Crushed an AI for dozens of turns with them, and they never built appropriate shield defenses. AI seems to be weak adapting to weapon types.
