I wondered whether there aren't any other ways to interact with other factions aside from trade and total annihilation.

Sure, you can trade resources and technology (since the AI is so stingy about its systems...) but how about buying fleets or improvements? Or maybe make them vassals instead of wiping them out. Or "You wage war for us and we produce FIDS for you." kind of deals.

That'd be awesome. Not to steal from Sins of a Solar Empire, but I also liked setting objectives for allies too. You could say "Go destroy fifteen of this person's ships and I'll give you 1500 bucks" or "Go obliterate this system and I'll give you 'x' amount of this resource". Other things that would be nice is a seperation of "Peace" and "Shared Vision". I feel like while I'm willing to not attack someone, I don't necessarily want them knowing every secret to my defense. Especially concerning most people do peace until the major competition is gone, then declare war on their former allies. lol

Peace and Shared Vision aren't tied. Shared vision comes with an alliance (which also means you'll be at war with whoever your ally is at war with).

Oh, that's right. I had meant Alliance (I often mix up Alliance and Peace).

These are some good suggestions. I hope to see them implemented.
