Ok, going way back to a game named STARS!, when ships were destroyed they left behind burnt out hulks on the map. If you were then to send a ship out to the wreck you could salvage these hulks for resources and technology (if they were a higher tech than yours). Why not do something along these lines in Endless Space? If you destroy an enemy fleet in a friendly system, surely you'd crawl all over their ruined ships to steal their secrets?

The in-game mechanic would be +science in system (for 1 turn and only if it happens in a friendly system) based on:

1. Tech level difference in ship modules and

2. Number of ships destroyed.

Also works nicely with idea of deployable / creative heroes. You could attach one of your heroes to this 'mission' to make it more likely to be successful. It could even have a 'critical success' (based on attributes of hero) and give a really great result, or a 'critical failure' with a disaster, leading your scientists down a dead end, wasting lots of energy and effort.

This thread is the origin of discussions about salvaging enemy technologies.

Feel free to post here about this topic here and inform yourself about the variations the threads listed above have already discussed, but don't open new suggestion threads for anything alike. smiley: wink
